Utilizing a collaborative, data-driven, and regional approach, the Center for Housing Opportunity strives to reduce the cost burdens which too many households - owners and renters - face in our region. The Center for Housing Opportunity collaborated with Urban Institute in 2021 to produce Housing Connecticut’s Future. This first-of-its-kind statewide housing needs assessment found Connecticut is short 86,000 homes for its most vulnerable residents, those making 0-30% of area median income. The report finds that if left unaddressed, this gap and others will undercut our population growth, workforce development, and economic competitiveness.

Research by the Center for Housing Opportunity, Urban Institute, and Connecticut Department of Housing found that the state is missing 86,000 units of affordable housing for households with very low incomes. As part of this project, the research team developed housing accessibility and affordability profiles for Connecticut’s counties.
